Day 2
2024-08-02
24.5 miles completed
I’ve got a short YouTube video I’ll upload here once I’m back in town.
”We’re hiking the AT because we love to climb!” - Titan
That was said to our group right before we did the ascent of Barren Mountain, which was my official first real climb of the AT. The first section was a 3.5 mile climb clocking in 2000+ feet of elevation gainwhere the steepest portion was 1.5 miles at roughly 800 ft/mile.
I was a little anxious to see how I’d hold up, but my legs were still feeling fresh after only being out 1 day and I handled it well! At the summit I got my first great view of the hundred miles (you can check it out in the video above) and was stoked.
After the summit I pushed ahead of the group as they stopped a few times to break. I ended up completeling 14.1 miles today with 3600+ feet of elevation gain. I’m very curious how my legs will feel tomorrow.
Peace!
