Winds of Lafayette
- Today I traveled 9.4 miles with 2096 feet of ascent and 4583 feet of descent.
- The weather forecast this morning was significantly better than it called for yesterday which I was stoked about since I’d be summiting Lafayette Mountain today. It was now just supposed to rain a little instead of storming a lot.
- I had a bit of a short day since I’ll be heading into North Woodstock to stay at the Old Colony Ski Club.
- The top of Lafayette is above tree line and the ridge runs over Lincoln and Little Haystack Mountain before descending back into the forest. Above treeline the winds were ripping stronger than if experienced yet. I’m not sure exactly how fast they were but the weather report for a shelter 1200 feet lower on the mountain called for gusts up to 45 mph, so I’m guessing the summit had 50+ mph winds. It was crazy and felt sick to be able to hike through it.
- I deacened the mountain and got into North Woodstock around 1pm where I had a big BBQ lunch in town.
Peace!
