Moosilauke and 3 Cupcakes
- Today I traveled 20.8 miles with 5948 feet of ascent and 6388 feet of descent.
- I woke up at the Old Colony Ski Club this morning and grabbed a coffee and 2 steak egg and cheese English muffins from Wayne’s deli next door. The English muffins are only 2.99! So it’s crazy not to get 2.
- My first pay off the trail today was summiting Moosilauke. It’s the last 4k+ foot elevation mountain I’ll hit for a while and it’s the first mountain to welcome NOBOS to the hardest section of the trail. This is arrogant but it is shocking how chill climbing these mountains has become compared to how I felt climbing shorter and less steep mountains at the start of the month.
- I slack packed again today by having the Hikers Welcome Hostel pick up my extra gear from Old Colony. I arrived at Hikers Welcome around mile 10 on the day, after I descended Moosilauke. I ate lunch there and the guy running the place brought out a plate of cupcakes and apple pies for me and a few other hikers. I had already bought and eaten a Jimmy Dean’s breakfast sandwich, a hot pocket, a bag of veggie straws and a peanut butter tortilla and then ate 3 cupcakes and a slice of pie.
- the next 10 miles on the day were so smooth. The terrain is less rugged than what I’m used to walking over and everything had flattened out.
- At the end of the day I got some trail magic from Mike, a father who was helping his son slack pack portions of the AT. I got a fresca, fruit snacks and a top shelf brand of tuna and ramen. Trail magic is such a boost to the day. I felt like I was floating for the next 2 miles.
Peace!
