When Life Gives You 5 Oatmeal Bars...
- Today I traveled 21.5 miles with 4708 feet of ascent and 3527 feet of descent.
- I got an early start today at around 6:45 this morning with plan to push some big miles today, but I honestly ended up feeling pretty tired all day. It’s not too surprising considering my pace this past week and probably my quality of sleep recently. I know I’ll have more days like today, but I obviously like it more when I’m full of energy.
- Fittingly, I got a text back from a friend I hiked with my first week on the trail, a Nobo named Smokey. I had asked him how life was going post trail, and he said he missed the trail and told me to enjoy every moment on it, even the bad days. Today wasn’t a bad day but any means, but I’ll definitely be keeping his words in mind.
- Last night one of the guys to give me a hitch to the food truck, Sebastian, also have me a handful of iced oatmeal bars that he had just picked up from the grocery. I had 5 of them and decided to eat the batch for lunch today. Shout-out to Sebastian!
- I’m staying in a nice shelter tonight, Peru Peak Shelter. It’s right beside a stream which always provides some good background noise to fall asleep to and it even has a picnic table! I’ve heard lots of shelters down south are like this one or even nicer, but the shelters I’ve started in up north have been much more minimal.
Peace!
