The 4 State Challenge
- Today I traveled 44.1 miles with 7168 feet of ascent and 7372 feet of descent.
- Today was the 4 state challenge! The 4 state challenge requires you to hike in 4 states within 24 hours which takes a little over 44 miles to complete.
- I woke up at 2 am this morning and left camp at 2:45. My first step of the day was across the PA/MD border. The first 4 and half hours I hiked in the dark with a headlamp through the toughest section of the day featuring a good amount of climbing and walking through rock fields. It was gnarly.
- The rest of the day was super pleasant. Maryland is known as the easiest state of the AT and it definitely made sense why after today, the trail was smooth and pretty flat for most of the day.
- I listened to a lot of music on the trail and finished The Two Towers audiobook.
- I had 20 miles completed by 10 am and hit the 30 mile mark around 1:30. I felt pretty great all day. Around 5 I entered Harpers Ferry and ate dinner in town. After that finished the final 3ish miles of the challenge when I crossed over from West Virginia into Virginia. I set up camp there and was asleep a bit before 8pm.
Peace!
